Privacy policy

This explains what earthaster keeps on your iPhone, which services the app contacts, and what happens when you visit this website or contact support.

1. Operator and scope

This policy covers the earthaster iPhone app and these earthaster information pages. Independent websites opened from the app have their own privacy policies.

2. Information kept on your iPhone

earthaster stores a local snapshot of event reports, article headline cards, source status and refresh times. Your saved events, stories and places, plus favourite newsroom choices, are stored in the app’s protected Application Support storage. The app uses that snapshot to show the last available information while offline. It does not provide an earthaster account or upload your saved library to a developer-operated server.

A saved place contains the label and coordinates you selected. The current release does not request your device’s GPS position. A headline marker may show an approximate region inferred from the headline; it is not your location.

earthaster contains no advertising SDK, in-app purchases or developer-operated app analytics in this release.

3. Online data and map requests

While connected, the app refreshes public event feeds directly from the U.S. Geological Survey, NASA EONET and GDACS. News headlines are requested from our Railway-hosted earthaster endpoint. That endpoint requests the public GDELT news index at most about once every 30 minutes per running server process and temporarily caches only public headline, publisher, link and date fields. Railway receives the source IP address, request path and user-agent header for this request and makes them available in its HTTP logs. Railway retains those logs according to the hosting plan, as described in its logging documentation. Your saved library is not sent to that endpoint. The app also requests globe tiles and regional event imagery from NASA GIBS, and may request USGS event charts. Direct event, map and image requests can reveal technical connection details such as your IP address, approximate network location, device/browser information and the requested data or map area to those providers. We do not control their operational logs or retention periods; consult their linked policies and notices.

If you type a place into search, the app sends that search phrase to Apple’s MapKit search service to return places. Searching the locally stored event and headline lists does not send those lists to earthaster. Opening a story, official broadcaster page, YouTube search or another external link loads that provider’s site in Safari, where its own privacy and cookie practices apply.

earthaster does not send your saved library to these feed providers as a single list. Viewing a particular area or event can still cause a map tile or image request for that area. Updates depend on network access and source availability.

4. This website and support email

These pages are hosted by Railway. Website requests carry technical information such as source IP address, requested path, user-agent header and request time to Railway and its infrastructure. Railway makes this information available in HTTP logs and retains those logs according to the hosting plan, as described in its logging documentation. This earthaster website contains no analytics, advertising pixels, forms, external fonts or client-side JavaScript, and it sets no website cookies. If you email support, we receive the address and information you choose to include. We use it to answer your request and keep correspondence as needed for that purpose and applicable obligations. Do not send passwords, private documents or more personal information than needed to explain a problem.

5. Retention, deletion and your rights

Each refresh may replace the locally stored report and headline snapshot. Saved events, stories and places remain until you remove them from the Saved screen or delete the app and its data. Choose Delete App, rather than Offload App, to remove earthaster’s local app storage from that iPhone; an earlier iOS backup may still contain a copy under your device backup settings. There is no earthaster online account to delete.

You can use earthaster without creating an account. You can also avoid optional place search and external publisher links. Where applicable, you may ask us about personal information from a support conversation, request correction or deletion, or exercise other privacy rights by emailing letsgo@senolt.com. Third-party providers process requests under their own policies; contact them for their records.
